JOIN US.
Civil Sights is a cultural exchange and platform of support dedicated to historic preservation, designed to ignite passion and inspire action. We invite kindred spirits to join together through preservation to conserve, protect, and care for our collective civil rights history. By doing so, we can all contribute to a brighter future.
Preservation is not exclusive.
THERE IS NO LIMIT TO YOUR PERSONAL IMPACT
You don’t need to be a real estate professional to make a difference. People from all backgrounds and with varied interests can meaningfully contribute to cultural heritage preservation by leveraging their individual talents. Your gifts may be found in the fine arts, education, and the humanities, through craft and construction, or simply by showing up. When we work together, our focused and impactful actions have the power to improve the present and impart valuable lessons upon future generations by sharing stories about our past. Join us!
THE BOOK
Our journey begins in Sweet Auburn, the birthplace of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement. Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1976, Sweet Auburn has since lost nearly 47% of its historic structures.
In "Civil Sights," author Gene Kansas meticulously shares the stories of the people and places that came together to move mountains before, during, and after the Civil Rights Movement. These remarkable citizens made history that must not be forgotten. Through the preservation of buildings, rights, stories, traditions, songs, dance, theater, customs, and many other forms of culture, we can make that dream a reality.
“Civil Sights” serves as both a resource and a guide, aiming to provide information and inspiration for individuals and groups to unite and make a positive impact today through their own projects, lesson plans, conversations, and actions. Let’s not let our history go to waste. The time is now.
